William Ferris
Biography
William Ferris is the Joel Williamson Eminent Professor of History at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the senior associate director of UNC’s Center for the Study of the American South. He has authored or edited ten books and created fifteen documentary films, including co-editing the Encyclopedia of Southern Culture (North Carolina, 1989). Ferris’s most recent book is The Storied South: Voices of Artists and Writers (North Carolina, 2013), from which his Welty interview is excerpted.
