Wendell Berry

Biography

Wendell Berry, a farmer and environmental activist as well as a writer, is the author of more than fifty works of poetry, fiction, and nonfiction. A central figure in the environmental movement of the twentieth century, Berry’s work revolves around humanity’s place in nature, and in particular, how small-scale agriculture conserves the natural world by reconnecting people to the land. His best-known books include, among others, Recollected Essays: 1965-1980 (1981), The Broken Ground (1964), and The Mad Farmer Poems (2008).
