Annie Proulx

Biography

Annie Proulx is the author of eleven books, including The Shipping News (Scribner, 1994), Barkskins (Scribner, 2017), and the memoir Bird Cloud (Scribner, 2011). Her short story “Brokeback Mountain” was made into an Academy Award-winning film. Her many honors include the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Award, and the PEN/Faulkner. Her story “The Half-Skinned Steer” was chosen by John Updike for inclusion in Best American Short Stories of the Century.
