VQR hosts Adrienne Rich
The Virginia Quarterly Review hosts a reading and booksigning by Adrienne Rich, one of America’s most acclaimed poets.

In a career spanning over fifty years, Adrienne Rich has authored over twenty books, including over a dozen collections of poetry. Her poetry has been honored with two Guggenheim Fellowships, the first Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize, a MacArthur Fellowship, the Wallace Stevens Award from the Academy of American Poets, the Los Angeles Times Book Award, and numerous other awards. Her most recent book, The School Among the Ruins: Poems 2000–2004 (W.W. Norton, 2004), was honored with the National Book Critics Circle Award.
Some of Rich’s first poems were published in VQR in the Spring 1950 issue while Rich was a senior at Radcliffe College. The Spring 2006 issue of VQR offers readers a new essay and seven new poems by Ms. Rich, along with appreciations of her work by noted poets and critics including Marilyn Hacker, Jean Valentine, and Craig Werner.
This reading is co-sponsored by the UVa Creative Writing Dept., the UVa Women’s Center, the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities, and the UVa Bookstore.
