Utne Reader has nominated us for two Independent Press Awards, in their General Excellence and International Coverage categories. (We won General Excellence, their top award, last year.) We’ve got stiff competition on both fronts. In General Excellence we’re up against the American Prospect, Audubon, the Chronicle of Higher Education, High Country News, Miller-McCune, Orion, and Washington Monthly. And in International Coverage we’re competing with Middle East Report, NACLA Report on the Americas, New Internationalist, New Statesman, Peace Review, PEN America and the Walrus. The winners in these and eight other categories will be announced in one month’s time, at the Magazine Publishers of America—Independent Magazine Advisory Group conference in Washington D.C. We’re flattered by Utne’s recognition of us, especially after last year’s win.
Check back here on April 25 and we’ll tell you how it turns out.
